While that information may be helpful, wouldn’t it be nice to not need to worry about getting bitten by ticks and possibly contracting a disease like Lyme in the first place, at least in your own yard? That’s where Mosquito Squad comes in. Our Ayer tick control will eliminate nearly 90% of the adult ticks in your yard for up to three weeks straight, and we’re even sure to target the ones in younger life stages, which halts their life cycle and thus reducing the tick population on your property in the longer-term. And we do this with a little help from our furry friends.
We start with a barrier treatment, just like we do with mosquitoes. Our EPA-registered barrier spray formula is not only effective at knocking down mosquitoes, but ticks and other biting bugs, too. We work from the perimeter of your yard inward, and when concentrating on Ayer tick control specifically, we give extra attention to places we know they like to hang out. Places like tall grass, woodpiles, and leaf piles are prime tick territory, where they’re just waiting to hitch a ride on any unsuspecting passers-by to get their next blood meal. Mosquito Squad is here to make sure that’s not you, your family, or anyone else who comes into your yard.
After the initial barrier treatment, we then strategically place these small, biodegradable tubes called tick tubes around your yard where mice can find them. Yes, mice. Contrary to their name, “deer ticks,” the ones primarily responsible for spreading Lyme disease, actually contract Lyme from mice more often than any other creature. These little critters end up being stealthy little helpers in eliminating ticks in their larva or nymph stage.
We stuff the tick tubes with cotton that is treated with permethrin, which is a mild insecticide that is harmful to the mice but fatal to ticks. When mice find the cotton and take it back to their nests for bedding, the chemical rubs off all over their fur. Then, if and when a younger tick tries to feed off one of these critters, they’re exposed to the permethrin and eliminated. When we eliminate ticks in their younger stages, we’re halting the life cycle of ticks, drastically reducing their population in your yard overall.
It’s with these two steps — barrier treatment and tick tubes — that we’re able to ensure you a nearly 90% tick-free yard for around three weeks at a time.

All of Mosquito Squad’s products are EPA-registered, but we understand that there are some people who won’t settle for anything less than 100% natural. That’s why we developed an all-natural barrier treatment solution that is based on essential oils and mixed in-house. It is applied to your yard the same way as our traditional barrier treatment — with a special mist-blower backpack.
Like the traditional formula, our all-natural solution eliminates bugs on contact, but after it’s dry (about 30 minutes) it acts like a repellant, essentially confusing and “chasing” the bugs away. It’s a slightly less potent treatment than our traditional formula, but customers who elect this method report around 80% reduction of yard pests. Because of its botanical makeup, the all-natural formula breaks down a little faster than the traditional, therefore we recommend re-application every two weeks instead of three.
