Lowell tick control

Living in Massachusetts, you’re likely well aware of the dangers that ticks present, with Lyme disease being at the top of the list. In fact, Lyme disease is so bad here that it was officially declared an epidemic in Massachusetts in 2015. When the CDC released a report in May 2018 that diseases from mosquitoes and ticks had more than tripled in recent years, it was hardly a surprise to anyone in the Northeast. In fact, the Lowell Sun reports that 2018 is the worst tick year to date, and unfortunately, some people have even been diagnosed with two tick-borne diseases at once.

While black-legged (deer) ticks (the ones that transmit Lyme disease) are bad enough in these parts, we’ve also got to worry about the Lone Star tick in Lowell now, which brings with it a whole new batch of tick-borne diseases, like Anaplasmosis, STARI, and Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever.

Yikes! This is enough to make a person want to stay inside all summer!

Luckily, with Mosquito Squad you don’t have to. Our Lowell tick control will reduce the tick population in your yard by nearly 90% for up to three weeks at a time, or your money back. Our signature barrier treatment that we use for mosquitoes also works on ticks, and then we add an extra tactic to make sure we eliminate them in their younger stages of life, thus halting their life cycle on your property. And we do so with a little help from our furry friends.

How our Lowell tick control works

We start with a barrier treatment, just like we would for mosquitoes. This alone will eliminate about 90% of the adult ticks in your yard on contact. When concentrating specifically on your Lowell tick control, we give extra attention to areas of your yard they like to hang out — mainly tall grassy areas, woodpiles, leaf piles, and other areas they can sneakily hitch a ride on someone (or something) passing by.

A barrier treatment spray would be good enough for some companies, but not Mosquito Squad. We then go the extra mile with our Lowell tick control and strategically place tick tubes around your property. These are small, biodegradable tubes that are stuffed with a cotton treated with permethrin, a mild insecticide. Mice and other small animals like bunnies and squirrels like to use cotton to cozy up their nests and burrows, and when they find the cotton in these tubes, they take it back home.

In using this cotton for their nests, the permethrin rubs off on their fur. Contrary to their name, deer ticks don’t actually acquire Lyme disease from deer most of the time — it’s these small animals in your backyard. And it’s usually the ticks in their larva or nymph stages of life that do so. When one of these younger ticks tries to get their blood meal from one of these backyard critters, they’re eliminated shortly thereafter. Don’t worry, permethrin doesn’t harm the animal — they end up being stealthy little helpers in halting the life cycle of ticks to reduce their population in your yard drastically!

Looking for something more natural?

While all of Mosquito Squad’s products are registered with the EPA, we understand that there are still some people who would prefer to stay away from our synthetic barrier treatment and go the “greener” route. Not a problem. That’s why we created and offer an all-natural barrier treatment formula for your unwanted yard pests. We base this solution on essential oils and mix it in-house.

While it also knocks down mosquitoes and ticks on contact, after it dries it acts as a repellant, not an eliminator. Meaning, the scent confuses bugs and “chases” them away. It has a mild flowery fragrance for a couple hours after application, but then wears off to the human nose and you don’t notice it. But you’ll notice it’s working when you notice around 80% reduction in yard pests! While our all-natural solution is also a time-released formula, its botanical makeup means it breaks down slightly faster than our traditional formula, so we recommend reapplication every two weeks instead of three.
